Polar have launched what they call “the world’s most advanced training computer” in the V800, and it definitely has all the bells and whistles you could reasonably expect to back up such a claim. The sleek and stylish addition to your running kit measures speed, distance, route, recovery time and heart rate (if you buy the separate heart sensor) for multiple sports, as well as having a tri-specific function, recording your performance and transition times. Another intriguing feature is the ‘orthostatic test’, which could help you avoid overtraining by recording your recovery status over the long-term. This technological theme stretches to the bike, as it allows you to link to the new Bluetooth Smart power pedals. The functionality is straightforward and intuitive, and if it’s good enough for reigning Ironman World Champ Frederik Van Lierde, then it’s certainly good enough for us.
