My bike is a Giant Trinity Advanced SL 0 TT, custom painted, with Shimano Di2 and C75s.
The first time I rode it was the day after a mate’s wedding. The bike was great but I was pretty shabby, haha. It was with some great friends on Beach Road in Melbourne. St Kilda to Frankston return.
I customised it with the paint job commissioned by the team at Giant Bicycles – matte black, blue and pink. I wasn’t a ‘pink’ kind of guy, but I I love it now. It’s a conversation starter and certainly turns some heads. I use a custom spacer from ProMotion cycles in Melbs to get my elbow pads in the right place on my aero bar setup. I run a Shimano 7800 wireless SRM with a Garmin Edge 500.
I’ve just upgraded my saddle to an ISM Adamo Race, which I love. I use XLab carbon products for hydration and spares.
I love it because I love the matte carbon finish. The paint job is one of a kind, but most importantly I’ve been able to get the perfect fit. I’m comfy and strong. Which just makes me want to ride it more, right?
My first bike ever was a red BMX as a kid, but my first race bike was second-hand Shogun Ninja from the trading post!
My other bike is a Giant TCR Advanced 0 road bike, which I think is the best road bike I’ve ever ridden. Big call, but I think it is. My other, other bike is a retro, steel-frame, fix-gear, flat-bar pub cruiser.
The best ride I ever had is in the Santa Monica Mountains behind Malibu in California. It features some amazing climbs like Latigo Canyon, with stunning views of the hills along the Mulholland Drive ridgeline.
My worst ride was probably a really good crash I had back in 2006 in Sydney. Descending through the Royal National Park I hit a pothole on my TT bike and flew over the bars. I ended up losing a lot of skin, breaking a few bones and spending a couple of days in hospital – ouch!
I look after my bike by using Armor All wipes to clean it. It also sleeps inside.
