IRONMAN Cairns ready to crown Asia-Pacific champions
Known as the IRONMAN in paradise, Cairns Airport IRONMAN is situated amongst some of the world’s natural wonders. Come and tackle this beast amongst the beauty.
IRONMAN has been luring athletes for over six years to one of the most iconic tropical locations on the globe, the pinnacle event; Cairns Airport IRONMAN takes participants through a full-distance IM course nestled between the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. An undisputedly unique course amongst some of Australia’s greatest attractions and World Heritage sites.
The swim leg begins in Palm Cove, Cairns’ most famous shoreline; a long, sandy beach amongst the calm, warm, reef waters of the Coral Sea. The bike course has become a ‘must-do’ for anyone on the IRONMAN circuit, racing north along the Daintree Rainforest and hugging the ocean’s edge. Competitors ride the Captain Cook Highway all the way till Port Douglas, then turning around to head back south to Cairns for the run. The marathon takes in three laps of the Cairns Esplanade and marina, running along sections of the boardwalk, making the most of the crowds and atmosphere in the city. The finishing line welcomes the racers back to heart of the festival.
The winners of Cairns IM will also be crowned IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Champions. The Championships include 75 qualifying slots to the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
